Hello all,

My wife and I are the proud new owners of a 1939 Singer Super 12 Saloon. We are at the moment awaiting delivery, pending suitable storage in the SE London/Kent area. Classic cars is a new thing for us, but we've been on the 1940s living history scene for a long time. This car is a dream come true!

Lovely cars and rare too. There is a 47 model down near us and it does look good.

Cheers guys, I'll upload some better photos of "Bertie" and do a little write-up as well, hopefully some time next week.

The Bromley Pageant is on the to-do list, until then we hope to take Bertie on the road and to events as soon as possible.

We're very lucky to have a bit of history of the car as well. It was ordered in October 1938 from Sharwood Motors Ltd of Ealing, London, W5 and delivered March 1939. As far as I can gather, the original owner kept it until his death in 1972.

Over the past few days I've been lucky to find a few original sales brochures, and these are the covers of two of them:

I'm still digging for more information to fill in the gaps in its 75 year-old history and I'm particularly interested in finding out what happened to it during WW2 and what the original owner used it for.

Have you tried writing to DVLA and requesting the names/addresses of the previous owners? You might be lucky!

Worth a go, I need to do something similar. I've a feeling that registrations issued in London were lost during WW2, but it'd worth making a few enquiries.

That's a good idea, thanks for the tip - will get in touch with DVLA shortly.

Our "Bertie" got delivered yesterday so I finally had my first spin around the Kentish countryside Very Happy

It also has a stunning art deco interior, with sunburst pattern on the door panels:

Thanks Rick, no that was where it stayed for two days until we got the key to a lockup garage. It's the home of a Riley restoration workshop, owned by a very helpful and friendly chap.
