|
|
My family were from the Channel Islands and I have been associated with the islands all my life.
G-Joey is not a famous bomber, fighter plane or pioneering passenger jet and would have been just another nondescript Trislander had it not been for the registration G-Joey. I can remember Joey coming into service and have flown on him, as with so many youngsters, my daughter was a Joey fan.
There are moves afoot to preserve this little plane, and it illustrates the rather strange way that we sometimes decide what is save worthy.

Your "small corner" comment reminded me of a book I read sometime ago about a chap who set up an independent service between Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly using a Miles Gemini or similar.
He stated that the entire island of St Mary's would fit inside Heathrow as it was then, complete with all of it's six, yes that's what it used to have, runways. 2x E-W, 2x NW-SE and 2x SW-NE, admittedly the diagonals weren't as long as the E-W runways.
So even St Mary's airport could fit within a small corner of that airport. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I remember as a child flying to and from Jersey quite often in a Short SD3, I recall they were quite quirky. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

We would, on occasions, fly Southampton Jersey, on the Shorts. Really noisy. The 737 from East Midlands was a better ride. |
