I took my Morris Two Seater to the rally at Glamis Castle at the weekend.
I spotted this RR Phantom. It was on display by a restoration company as an example of their work.
It would be difficult to fault the standard of their work but I am at a loss to understand why this mascot has been fitted. The pose is similar to that of the Spirit of Ecstasy but, shall we say, far less inhibited. To my eye it looks wrong on a Rolls. Am I being too critical?
Incidentally, I feel sure I have seen this mascot before but I can't place it.
Can anyone identify it?[img][/img][img][/img]

I think it looks nicer than the spirit of ecstacy.

The Spirit of Ecstacy was originally offered as an optional extra, although I don't think this car looks old enough for that.
I too have seen that mascot before: I think it's a modern one in the style of older ones, rather than an original period design.

I think I would agree, in my opinion I think it does look better than the Spirit. Although, I would imagine most Rolls owners would disagree.

Well, it looks like I am very much in the minority.
The Spirit of Ecstasy has been associated with Rolls Royce cars since 1911 and anything else just looks wrong to me.
Just a thought, how many Mercedes or Jaguar owners out there would swap their mascot for this one?

Oh! Now that's totally different. Nothing but the F. Gordon Crosby mascot is acceptable for this Jaguar owner.

To be serious for a moment. I am with you Ronnie; if I owned a Rolls Royce, I should think it would likely be the "Spirit" that would adorn it's majestic radiator. The only other possibility might be a mascot with special meaning for me.

Eleanor Thornton was Lord Montague's mistress and the model for Gordon Crosby's Spirit of Ecstasy, but she had a better body than face. Is that mascot her proving the point and one of a short list by the same Sculptor?

Perhaps that's why there's a version where she's wearing a gas mask Laughing
