Hi

How do you set a line shaft up, obviously only a small one, but one powered by a stationary engine perhaps?

Anyone ever done anything with shafts, slip pully's and the rest of it?

Cheers

Hi
If you can get over to Rowsley on the A6 between Matlock and Bakewell, you will find that there is a multi-storied flour mill, which is open to the public, powered by line shafts driven by a sunken turbine in the river.

I would think that someone there would be really happy to chat about the mechanics.

Buzzy, what kind of belts are you going to use from your line shaft, flat or Vee?

Buzzy, if you are thinking of flat belting, then you have to make sure that the pulleys are crowned, and that shafts are something like parallel.

Why not visit Trencherfield instead?

Hi
Liverpool Rd in the Castlefield area.
http://www.msim.org.uk/

From the top floor in one building you can also look down into Coronation St.
Part of the site is the original station on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway.

If you were coming in from Cheshire by train, or tram using Alty as a park and ride, it is relatively close to Tram, or Deansgate Rly., stations.
