1979 GMC High Sierra 1500 Heavy Half
?61,194 original miles?
Has a 350 V8 and auto trans, a/c, p/s, tilt wheel, am/fm radio, dual fuel tanks, and 3:73 gears.
It came with new front tires and it runs and drives very well!
Found the history on the truck already as most info was in the glove box and on the title.
Was sold new to the John Deere Tractor Works and driven by an exec. which equals few miles driven. After 10 years was sold to a Deere employee that I know and then sold to the person I bought it from. I'm now the 4th owner.
I bought it cheap, $500, and wanted it for hauling brush, lumber, parts, etc. Also good for driving the gravel road to the rifle range.
The cab itself is in decent shape, but to restore it will require new fenders, hood, doors, rocker panels, a good used box or new box sides, and a tailgate. All of the interior needs replaced.
Mechanically, the truck is sound, but needs new exhaust and rear tires.
Best thing is all parts are available thru GM or other sources at reasonable prices.
Not really a classic yet but more and more of the 70's pickups are showing up at the car shows.
Now I just need to decide whether to leave it as a rust bucket hauler or as a restored hauler ???

Don't know, don't care, heehee!
It's been sitting in front of the garage since I brought it home. The pics were taken where I bought it. It'll be sitting on the street in front of my house after this weekend.
I need to change the rear brake lines. One is new but wasn't installed like it should be and the other is pretty rusty. Need to service and fix a few other minor things also. |

IIRC you can get everything you need for that truck from LMC trucks. they're very popular and a lot of parts are avialable reproduction. trouble is, if you start spending a lot of time and money fixing it up you're not going to want to abuse it unnecessarily. of course, you COULD get some POS Japanese minitruck for beating on. |
