It only costs £3 to become a Labour Party member. I wonder what proportion of the members voting for Corbyn are actually right wingers wanting an unelectable Labour opposition?

Wasn't the same question asked when Mr Corbyn was elected last year?

Dirty business, politics.

I find it perplexing that politicians, many of whom are academically gifted, some of them Oxford and Cambridge Dons and academic superstars from Scottish and other provincial universities pursue political careers when their abilities would be perhaps better employed elsewhere.
Mr Gordon Brown has a PHd, David Cameron has 1st Class Honours in PPE and the list continues- Boris Johnson with a 2(1) honours in Classics.

And yet nearly all political careers end in defeat , disulusionment or humiliation.

I thought it ironic that Lord Heseltine made a vituperous attack on Boris Johnson today. Perhaps he has forgotten November 1990 and the "et tu Brute" accusation then aimed at him.

We are well out it Old Classic Car Forum members.

and to endorse Ellis's comment. Please don't let this subject bring OCC down to the level of politicians.

Wasn't that what happened in Ireland not too many years ago? A referendum on some aspect of the EU (it might have been the Lisbon treaty) returned what the government considered was the "wrong" result, so they had another referendum to get the "right" result.

I have to admit the steady and seemingly relentless increase does make me wonder but it shouldn't be too difficult for an inspection to determine the truth of it.

The bit of info I found suggested that "bots" were being used to cast votes.
Easy fix. If you want to vote then either turn up in person or send it through the mail.

Indeed it was..... and the simple explanation can be found here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twenty-eighth_Amendment_of_the_Constitution_of_Ireland

the understanding of which makes getting that seized bolt out of an engine block look like child's play.

I cannot agree more. When I was actively employed I worked with many senior Whitehall staff over a period of 40 years. Many were what I called educated idiots. Academically brilliant but they lacked common sense. They could analyse complex issues and present concise papers on that issue but would not have been able to find their way out of a paper bag.

Hi
Have you heard the latest from Paris.
Vehicles 20 yrs and older to be banned from the city Mon to Fri.

Deux Cheveau owners and many others using old cars and vans as daily drivers are up in arms.

What starts in Paris could infect the rest of France and then the whole of the EU.

I'm the opposite of that and joined the Labour Party today to support JC.
He is the rarest form of politician who actually has some moral standards that he consistently adheres to and couldn't care less about spin and saying things just to make himself more electable.
Ironically that seems to make him more electable. Very Happy

Im not sure of the truth but I read that the glut of Italian registered, 1960s Fiat 500s available to the UK is because they don't have SORN equivalent and are otherwise forced to scrap unused, old motor vehicles.

I'm minded to do the same, but holding fire until someone - anyone - has the bottle to challenge JC. This morning's news suggests some of the rebels are trying to do a deal to encourage JC to resign, presumably because they don't think much to their chances of beating him in a fair vote.
