Asking for a friend with a 1955 Ford 103e.

He also has a couple of Classic motorbike and a bike trailer to put them on.

He also has a Triumph Spitfire MK 3.

He has been trying to find if he can get, or make a tow bracket etc. to fit to the 103e.
Not been having much success as he cant see where the frame / bracket would fit to.

Anyone had any experience of, or seen, a tow bar on a 103e.

On my '48 Anglia i fabricated a towbar myself, there are a few holes in the back end of the chassisrails,i made bracketplates with matching holes and mounted these on the chassisrails, welded a square bar 30x30x8 between and welded a rectangular 10mm plate on the square tube to recieve the removable trailer hitch.
All was mounted with 12mm bolts, very solid and strong.

Thanks Rene

Is it OK if I copy and pass on these photos.

Said friend is not computer user at home.

He works for a large coach / lorry / trailer building company so should be able to fabricate something like this.

Isn't there legislation in the UK that says tow bars have to meet certain standards. I heard from a friend who said that the type of tow bar used over here are not approved in the UK.

Back in the 60's we would fabricate tow bars for our vehicles, but times have changed and the word "liability" is now in frequent use.

I would hope that a certain amount of common sense would apply re ancient cars, especially if no-one makes a tow-bar for the car concerned. It's an MOT-testable item - if the car falls into the MOT era.

It seems that Aug 1998 onwards, the car can only have a type-approved towbar fitted (unless this info is now out of date?).
