Did your engine builder not run test the engine?
I just wonder if they taped over the manifold holes and forgot to remove it when fitted?
Peter

Thinking about this - any chance they got the timing out on the crank / cam via chain? A few teeth out perhaps??

Right, after changing all ignition pates still the same!! Sad
But have noticed that carb seems to be throwing alot of fuel in so much so that when I open throttle a mist of fuel comes out of top cover
Also air mixture screw doesn't make a difference in any position and even fully removed!
Could this actually be causing all my problems?? Something isn't right somewhere in carb so could lack of power be caused by overfuelling?

Sounds like the choke is not returning properly.

Bob,

Have you checked the float in the carb.? Take out and give it a shake to see if there is any liquid inside. Also check the needle and seat adjustment. It sounds like the fuel level is too high.

If the mixture adjustment makes no difference I'd still wonder about it drawing in air somewhere it shouldn't be, making it run hyper-lean. What colour are the plugs?

I remember on my E83W, revving the engine while peering into the top of the carb (air inlet, cover removed) you could see a mist of fuel splurt across. Normal stuff iirc.

Plugs are quite black!
It's not a fine mist across the chamber it actually wets my hand working the throttle

Have changed the carb and overfuelling problem still there
Could fuel pump be the cause?

Nope, not if it's the standard Zenith carb.

I'd be surprised if it was (assuming it's the standard mechanical pump, bolted to the side of the block), in theory the pump only supplies what the needle valve (& float) allow it to pump into the float chamber.

As I've mentioned before, I remember being able to see fuel splurt across when peering into the carb as the engine was revved on my E83Ws, but never enough to drown the engine or mist/spray out above the carb's air intake while running.

Are you able to post up any photos of the engine, carb, and so on, just in case something obvious is in evidence? Even a video uploaded to somewhere online might be very useful.
