My latest purchase sports good old vinyl seats, unfortunately they bear the scars of almost 50 years use and some splits are apparent in the seams. Not sure if the seats were originally stitched but that is what it looks like, the stitching breaking and seams opening up.
Advise appreciated as to how and where I can have these seats repaired. I live in Suffolk. |

Whether they are repairable depends on what exactly has failed. If the thread of the stitching has worn away, then it should be possible to strip the seat cover off and re-stitch. However, if the holes for the stitching have cracked and pulled out, then its probably a job for an upholsterer.
If a moulded seam has split, then again, its curtains and a new seat cover, either from somewhere specialising in your car model, or a car trimmer, will probably be required.

Thank you for post, the car is my very recent purchase, a Volvo Amazon 123gt
Original seats fitted and I don't mind spending the money if they can be refurbished. Saying that they are not so bad but certainly the longer they are left the worse they become.
Had another closer look at the seats, it is definitely stitching that is breaking allowing the joins to spread apart. |

Didn't someone on the forum (was it you Rick?) but a set of Volvo seat covers for a P544?

Thank you for links, good to know but very expensive. Found a local trimmer/upholsterer who is stripping off the rear seat cover, rest itching the complete seam and replace onto seat moulding. At £90 I thought this good value deciding that my ambition to 'have a go' were misguided! |
