Interesting that the front engine mount suggests that the car is either very late 1929, or the mount has been modified. The 1928 and most 1929 cars had the engine firmly bolted to an upward fold of the front cross member. After that the yoke-shaped mount was used. Yours has the yoke.

I'll look forward to seeing the new engine go in, and hear of your comments when you drive the car.
Regards, Dane.

Dane the registration says 28-2-1929..........perhaps it is a modification of a later date?
In fact i really don't care,it is what it is....
As for now i am busy to de-rust the radiator and some small bits, also remove the flakey rust on the frame and non visable bodyparts and put noverox on.
Noverox is a rust converter and i have achieved good results in the past with this stuff.
Also cleaned the gearbox and checked it..........it is like new inside Very Happy
Tomorrow make an appointment to collect the new engine............

The yoke mount was supposed to reduce some of the engine noise and vibration through the chassis. A fairly regular conversion in its day.
I have driven A's with both types of mount and conclude that there is little difference between them.

Glad the gearbox is good. They don't usually give much trouble, but I did have a car that had worn gears and would drop out of top gear every so often. It was solved with an elastic strap from the seat to the gear lever!

Last thursday i collected the new engine.
As the exhaust and inlet manifold must be level to the engineblock they had to machine it but when the exhaust manifold came off my old engine it fell into 2 pieces........bummer that was......
The shop did.nt had a new one in stock but another fellow had 2 new ones laying around,so i jumped into my car and drove 3 hours to collect them.
When i was back they machined the new manifold and fitted it to the engine and i was on my way back home,i has left at home at 7 in the morning and was back at 7.30 in the evening with 700 km on the clock.
The next day i started with the rebuild of the car and this morning i should finished it..........unfortunally some thing did not go like i wanted it to go.
The studs to mount the waterpump stayed in the old engine,i did not have new studs so i could not mount the pump.
The fuel inlet of the carburettor has lost his thread so it is leaking now, tomorrow i take the carb at home and gonna try to make something of a plug with a pillar and glue it into the fuel inlet and instead of a copper fuel line mount a rubber hose as a fuel line,i know, not original but i don't want to buy a new carb if i can solve the problem this way.
I ordered new waterpump bolts instead of studs, this way you can take the waterpump off without removing the radiator, they should come in next wednesday...........
I started the engine for a short period and it runs okay, need some adjustment but i will do that as soon it can be cooled

Very Happy Very Happy

The new engine has made 300km this week,it is running very well now.
One little issue though, there is some oil leaking between the bell house and engine,i'll guess the rear crankseal.............this is not what i payed for, next 3 weeks are my holiday and i intent to travel around the netherlands doing only local roads and no highways, while i am on this vacation i will visit the engine builder and leave a big oil spot on his driveway, and ask him what he is gonna do with the oil leak.......... Rolling Eyes
There should be no leaking at all, they installed modern seals on the crank so it should be good.....it is not!
This rebuilding company is of a high reputation on classic engines so i trust they will come with a solution to this problem.
Besides this little oil problem i am looking forward to the 3 week roundtrip, completely in '30s style, small tent,2 folding chairs, single gas cooker and a kettle,no phone or navigation only a road map is all we take with us.
I made a luggage rack with a wooden chest attached to it for a can of fuel and some tools, some small parts like a set of points, spark plugs and a can of oil.
I also made a wooden toolbox on the floorboard and the rest of the holiday stuff will be on the backseat.
My estemation is the trip will be around 2500 km.
I will post a report when i am back ,take care for now........René

Camping 1929 style should be fun, Rene.

Back in the 1970's, in our 1928 Tudor, my wife and I went camping, and used a canvas sheet tied to the door handle, petrol filler and spare wheel, then stretched out and anchored to the ground with a couple of screwdrivers. It worked fairly well.

I am looking forward to hearing of your adventures.

Well........i am back from the holiday roundtrip,i must say it was a bit of an expierence to drive the model A loaded full of camping gear around the Netherlands,Germany and Belgium only using local roads.
The model A did a stunning job,the only thing that failed was a brake light bulb...........oh,and the waterpump developed a leak after 3 days running but it could be tighten a bit and the leak was gone..........and this happened every 3 days.
We drove about 3000km with an average speed of 55km/h.
We did camp wit only a tent, air matress, sleeping bag, single gas coocker,2 pans,2 mugs a kettle and a thermos coffee can.For lighting we used a oil lamp,so it was very basic.
My phone was switched off the whole time, exept 1 hour in the evening so if there was troubl at the home front my family could get in contact..........they did'nt! Wink
At first i will post some pic's of the new engine build in,later some pic's of the vacation as they are still on the wife's camera.

Real vintage-style touring. My wife and I had many similar trips when we were much younger. We also found that the Tudor body style admirable when the children were small.

When i bought the model a i knew the motor was,nt is exellent shape, there was a small blue amount of smoke out of the exhaust and the owner said it uses some oil.
Noe after driving it for 300km it used 5 liters of sae 30 and the puff of smoke has devoloped into a local environmental disaster..
So i called a specialist(http://www.mrmbv.nl/NL/revisie.php)to ask what the possibilaties are for atotal rebuild,he told me they have a complete renewed engine waiting for me or they can rebuild my own.
I am going for the other engine as this is the easyist way for me,quick and no surprises.
Today i started to remove the old motor, next week swap it and put the new engine in the A and hopefully drive it on sunday again.
René

If that is the original engine I believe it has your VIN#. I might be wrong. I don't remember when Ford started supplying seperate VIN#'s from the engine number. Anyway, I believe the VIN# is on the engine, the other spot is located under the drivers' side 'A' pillar on the frame and seen only with the body off.

The engine that came out was'nt the original engine, according to the engine number it was from 1931 so the vin was'nt the same as the vin on the chassis.
The replacement engine is from 1930,it does'nt matter because all A engines are the same.
Meanwhile the engine was out again and send back to the company to check the oil leak, the engine was not leaking after all,the oil came from the gearbox,
The gearbox is now overhauled with a new gearshaft, bearings and seals,
The leaky waterpump was so bad i ordered a new pump togther with a new aluminium fan.
When i drove around the engine was feeling a bit to slow, the specialist put it on a testbench and a new ignition and another carburettor did the trick, now it runs great.
I am busy to build the engine in the car and when this is done all of the engine is new so it must be without problems next season.
Next on the list are the brakes and rear shocks.
