Hi on my Austin 1300 .which is a k reg.1972 with the red strip speedometer.the very far right hand side of the dash .next to the washer plunger.is a red switch..any ideas what its for.thanks in advance

The problem with pressing it to see what it does is that on an oldie it probably doesn't do anything anymore...

Is it a flick switch - ie to turn something on for a period of time, after letting go?

Or a push-in-but-doesnt-stay-on switch, like for the washers, or perhaps to operate a separate set of air horns for instance?

Its an on off switch.im pretty certain its an original fitting as the cut out in the dashboard is perfect for it.im pretty sure someone on here has the same vehicle and will instantly identify what it is

Being red I wonder if it's a four-way flasher perhaps? Would they have begun to be a regular fitment by that era?

Have you tried it? If so and it didn't do anything, then what if anything doesn't work. Do you have a wiring diagram for the car?

i googled austin 1300 which i believe mine is an early mk 3 model as mine doesn't have the fablon dashboard.i was hoping to see a display of the dashboard.but unfortunately.my model wasn't on there

If you can see the wiring, compare the colours to the wiring diagram.
(but it being a BL product, that might not provide a definitive answer.....)
