Hi folks, on photobucket on Friday & it's so slow I nodded off. Most of my wide screen monitor was covered by adverts, so much so it wasn't possible to see what was actually on the photobucket page. I know it's free but, come on. If I was paying for it I would be really upset. Don't like paying for things - ye canny get the breeks aff a highland chentleman, Anyone found a good alternative(that works),cheers,JD.

flickr.com is quite good. I have been using it for years.

I moved from "Rubbishbucket" to "Imgur" because of all the "rubbish" and it being really slow.

Imgur is quite fast and simple.

Hi John. It took me a few minutes to get used to the way it works, it has drag and drop and I find that the images go in very fast, having said that we are on a very fast internet service. There are some "foreign" images come up when you sign in but I "click" straight past them.

I see Mike Edwards is using "Thumbsnap", I hadn't heard of that one.

What's it like Mike ??

Years back I digitized thousands of old family photos, some back to the late 1800's right through to the pre digital age. I keep them on two external HD's and my computer. I did once think about using "pay as you wait" "Trashbucket" but read too many bad reviews.

I generally use Flickr for stuff I upload myself, having had the same performance issues that others have had on PB.

When any of my pictures are on "Thumbsnap", that is because another forum I post on makes it really to add a photo to a post, and does so by uploading to Thumbsnap as part of the "add reply" process. I then copy the image codes over to this and any other forum I want to post them in, to save uploading multiple times.

I tried several and now use Flickr, have done for years because it is the only good thing Yahoo ever did. It really works well with my 5,000 odd photos on it.

It seems that, from some point in the last few days, Photobucket have changed their terms of service to prevent people from using it to host photos for third party sites. Specifically if you put a photo on PB with the intention of embedding it in a forum posting, it won't now show up.

Several forum threads where I've used PB are now showing a graphic saying "3rd party hosting has been temporarily suspended" and the intention is that you upgrade to a paying account instead.

Given the way they've done this - I don't think I received any advance notification - I suspect it will have the opposite effect.

Have not posted any pics on Photobucket for a while.

Tried yesterday, gave up fighting the adverts and deleted all of my pictures as I now can now host my own.

This looks like another case of "pay us some money to unlock your PC".

We shouldn't give in to blackmail. A bit of a nuisance for many of the threads in this forum though. If we can't trust these hosting sites it looks like we will need to adopt a strategy of holding images within the forum.

The situation is clear now. Pay $395 and you can post your photos. Don't pay and you can't. I have experimented with Flickr, find it easy to upload, especially in bulk, I get 1 TB of free space, and Photobucket can stuff itself. I've fourteen years of photos on there but they are all on my external hard disk, so I'll just open a new album, copy the necessary photos and upload, and Bob's your uncle. Worked a treat yesterday once I had spent a bit of time doing internet searches for "how to".

I am also a member of a Family History forum. Photos are uploaded to their servers.
