Decided to set up my manifolds and twin carbs today. Mounted the manifolds on a piece of wood clamped in the vice, much easier than bending over the car and not being able to see whats going on.

I was able to remove the carbs and make a heatshield that's main purpose is to secure one end of the return springs.

I bought some linkage parts from Burlen but as the spindles were meant for a mini they were too short so I sent those back and used some 8mm aluminium tube and the levers from Burlen.
A question: are the two brass tubes at 45 degrees meant to connect to an engine breather, if so where should I connect them or could I blank them.

another question: is the little connection pipe for a vacuum pipe to a distributor, if so I wont need it and can connect my vacuum wiper to the bsp connection on the manifold, as can be seen far right.

my carb's dont have the 2 brass tube's, but you could use them to balance the carb's using a manometer, made out of 2 bottle's + water and some tube, i made one for my BMW m/bike, worked a treat, and cost nothing,
they probably are for engine breathing fume's, just blank them off ,

the small pipe stub will be for the dizzy, i'm just blanking mine off,

do you realise you'll have to cut a hole in your bulkhead to get the right hand carb to fit, i've just cut a hole in mine, turn's out you need 2 left carb's, no cutting then,

did you get the return spring's from burlen,?

re the bulkhead....bugger not sure I want to go down that route, maybe a rethink. Yes return springs from Burlen.

yes, that's what i said, bugger, but i dont want to mess about looking for a left hand carb, hence the cut,

here's a pic of 2 l/hander's, he only uses 1 carb choke, say's it start's fine, no heat sheild, said he's no problem with vapourisation, but he uses a SU elec pump, well away from the ex/manifold,
not sure where he's return spring's are located, i'll have to ask,

would like to see yours in situ. Looking at alternatives, cutting the bulkhead looks to be the easiest.

I believe the phrase is 'highjacking a thread' so forgive me but the picture of the carb' linkages reminded me.

I'm replacing the single carb' on the BSAFWD T31 which was between the 2 air cooled cylinders for twin carbs mounted directly on the cylinders, these will be 14" apart approx' . Is there a company that stocks bespoke linkages?

Cheers, Tony.

For reference, this is the '50s Aquaplane arrangement, which uses 2x SU MC2 carbs,

no idea what a "BSAFWD T31" is, or what carb's you're using, but you could try an old triumph m/cycle twin carb cable splitter, or similar, off a m/cycle,

I guessed it was short for BSA (British Small Arms) FWD (Front Wheel Drive) T31 (Model)

I checked with Google and they had guessed the same as me Laughing

The carbs' are SU MC2
