thought the same, but the aquaplane exhaust manifold make's using the original dip stick hole a non starter, there is just not enough room, i'll post a pic tomorrow, _________________ 1957 - 103e - popular, |

Of course, that issue doesn't arise ifa 100E engine is employed....[or at least, mine's ok?] |

Just had a measure-up of my 10hp engine, with Aquaplane exhaust manifold [but with home-made, cobbled-up, twin SU inlets]....The dipstick tube is 2 inches long.
I cannot at this moment put my hand to the actual dipstick, but I recall shortening it and re-marking, so that the finger loop sat right down on the tube end.
I measured the dipstick after the required amount of oil was put in...following a re-build. [There was lubricant in all the passages & galleries already]....thus, the top mark was evident. The lower, or 'fill' mark was simply measured from the original.
It was a fiddle to remove the dipstick, and best down with the engine quite cold. [Unless one enjoys burning one's hand on the exhaust?] |

here's a pic from underneath the car, the blanked off dipstick tube is the very short bit with the fiber washer on it, as you can see there's only a few inches between the ex manifold and the shortened dipstick tube, plus with me having a A/Q valve chest cover, that too foul's the d/s,
if you can figure out how to fit a bendy d/s, go for it, i could'nt,

Thanks for the pic. I think a longer dipstick tube and bendy dipstick would work especially as I don't have the aquaplane valve chest and oil pipes. The dipstick on my scudo is quite long. I will try it in my pops tube and see where it comes to at the correct oil level. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

d/s tube would have had too many bend's in it, then how would i screw it into the block, thought about a flexible d/s tube too, but never bothered, the sight level gauge was the easiest and simplest soloution i could think off, _________________ 1957 - 103e - popular, |

Looks like the valve chest is the main obstacle. I'm thinking I will connect a longer tube to the existing one as like you said it's not possible to screw in a tube with bends. Coming along real nice. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

Don't know what garage hermit, whose name remains a mystery, has in store for his mods, my own mods of twin su's on aquaplane manifold and exhaust manifold and maybe the fast road cam and 8hp head is to give it a bit more oomph up hills. Actually it's running really well at the moment. _________________ 1957 ford popular |
