A lot of these hot rod programmes from the US do portray a huge wealth of vintage parts and cars, one I was watching the other day had quite a few Model A bodies just with light surface rust lying about in their yard.

Horrible really to see them then choose a 5 window coupe body and just hack it about. If only we could find body's in that condition in the UK.

I suppose we should be grateful that we're spoiled for choice of car programmes at the moment.

I find 'Chasing Classic Cars' is easy to watch and pretty lightweight. Content is a world apart from my sort of classic motoring but maybe that's why I enjoy the show.

The new 'Salvage Hunter' production made a promising start IMHO. Drew Pritch' and his pal seem genuinely interested in the subject although the prices paid and obtained seem pure fantasy. Reminiscent of the early Wheeler Dealer material I'd say.

Best of all the current broadcast time coincides with the Missus' Tai Chi class so the remote is ALL MINE!

Goblin Works? Not for me thanks, Can't decide whether the production has more rough edges than the finished cars or vice versa. Some sort of Hipster trendyness being attempted although strangely, the people don't annoy me half as much as the incessant canned rock music.

Did you see then panel gaps on that poor old MGB? I honestly tried again for the Land Rover edition but I sank into deep depression before they got it back on the road! Never again.

I need more Shed And Buried, not the many, many repeats of the few they made.

I find that almost every Shed and Buried is a repeat, who many programmes did they actually make?

These are rather fun. Nice people and enjoying themselves.

There are better shows on YouTube if you can find them.

Just been catching up on the SOS episode for the "Pagoda" Merc SL, and the following extra vid on Youtube goes some way in illustrating just how bad things were beneath the fibreglass, filler and ropey metalwork. Interesting stuff.

I watched that the other night, and was a bit disappointed in the contrast between how much they whinged about how bad it was - including some comedy stomping off and door slamming - and how little time they spent showing us at least one little part of the body restoration. I recall a pointer to that video when the programme was first shown on satellite TV a while back and it was pretty interesting. At least it puts to bed the cynical thought that the presence of another white SL shell at the dippers wasn't coincidence.

I watched the SOS with the Merc, only catching the last 20 mins or so. I thought it was ok but there is still too much 'set-up' scenes that seems to unreal for me.

It was watchable though.

I watched that Fantom works garage last night, it was actually quite good I thought. They were repairing rather than butchering like most of the US programmes.

I've not watched that one yet, but I did record yesterday evening's episode so I'm looking forward to seeing what it's like.

I have seen three episodes of Goblin Works Garage. They ruined a very nice old Land Rover I don't like Land Rovers but they should never have done that to it. They stuffed a V8 into a Capri no mention of changing the axle or gearbox. If they didn't it will probably last about 10 minutes. Last night they absolutely wrecked a very rare Chevrolet Apache pick up truck. The one guy showed his lack of knowledge when it comes to engines. One bore was scored so the engine was scrap. What's wrong with fitting a liner? I know I did it many times when I worked in the trade. The worst part is they always manage to find a mug to pay big money for their "creations".

That's the first time I have seen Fantom works Rick, I did like some of the things they did and for once they actually showed guys working rather than just panning to the finished article. Of course being American there is still the theatricals but overall I would watch it again.

Goblin works garage...spending £12,950 on a rough pickup without apparently telling anyone? I don't think so, so set-up and so staged its cringe worthy.

I watched most of Fantom works from the other evening, I like the fact that they did discuss fairly technical issues, but the constant "drama" about this, that or the other with the Jeep and the Mustang wore me down a bit, and the endless bleepings which junior commented on more than once didn't really endear me much to it either. Not sure I'll bother again with that one tbh.

I watched possibly a re-run of Car SOS yesterday where they restored a 230 SL. The state of that car was hard to believe and they did at least have the decency to admit that it took months, and even the "friend" said at least a year to rebuild. The cost of that one must have been extortionate.
