Anyone else suffered from dodgy rotor arms?

I have had 2 fail the same way. HT eats through the plastic and shorts to the distributor shaft.

One failed in under 50 miles.

I bought a replacement from Green Spark Plugs so I will see how this one fares.

Welcome to the forum.

I've had one rotor arm pack up in no time at all, there seem to have been quite a few ropey ignition parts in circulation for quite some time now. Hopefully your purchase from GSP will work out ok.

Thanks RJ.

It's very annoying to have a new part fail so soon...

I agree about Distributor Doctor, who sells his[?] own rotor arms.....Seems [the Chinese?] were contracted to make black arms, and used too much carbon in the plastic mix..

There are a lot of duff repro [repop] small service parts out there....

I had a rotor arm fail when about 2,000 miles from home in our 1959 Rover 90. We were on the way back from Alice Springs- any help would be about 200 k's further on. I had two spares on board and decided to fit the one that I had bought only a few months previously. About 100 miles along the road, that one failed. I fitted the very old N.O.S. one, completed the journey and several years later, it is still fitted and still working well.
Both of the replacements were Bosch red ones.

Many thanks for that post, I'll get mine under the magnifying glass!

Cheers, Tony.

With rheumatic fingers I have now fitted a 123 distributor so no more rotor arms for me these days. But in the boot is still a red one from the doctor, just in case it can be of use to someone else one day. And it being drive it day, it may even be this afternoon.

Fake spark plug stories have been rife on car forums, if they can fake an NGK, a rotor arm's a doddle, see here; https://www.thecounterfeitreport.com/product/400/Ngk-Spark-Plugs.html
I think you have to check everything nowodays, if it doesn't look right (Glasses on) send it back Sad
