After installing a new battery, I notice the ammeter is showing a slight + even though everything is switched off. What could be wrong? The car has been the subject of a long restoration.

Disconnect the battery and observe the needle. Has it moved back to zero? Yes? you have a current draw and may have to disconnect bits until needle shows zero. If No, the ammeter pointer could simply be bent. Repair, replace or ignore.

Hi
Surely a +reading is showing a charge, not a discharge!
So if you find that there is a current leakage by following 47jag's method then it also looks as if it has been connected wrong way round.

As well as the bent needle suggestion, I wonderf if the backplate, with the markings on it, could have been installed off centre.

Many thanks for the replies.
I disconnected the battery and ammeter went to zero. Better still, when I reconnected the battery, it stayed at zero. Fingers crossed, it was a minor blip-I was dreading removing the dash again.
