I'm about to start soundproofing my old 2a Land Rover and I've had the materials "in stock" for some time - sound absorbent grey carpet, some double sided aluminium foil called Silent Coat and some adhesive rubberised black foam claimed to have been used by the Russian Navy. The latter has a curious smell. I did consider using Dynamat or it's competitors but the cost is not really justifiable.

Which adhesive do you recommend I use?
Dunlop Thiofix used to be my favourite but it's now made by somebody else.
I have no confidence in the water based aerosol adhesives on the inside of the roof although they are adequate for horizontal or vertical surfaces for the hard top sides.

That leaves Evo Stick in either Instant or Time Bond varieties unless somebody can suggest something equal or even better.

Any suggestions everybody?

Just use the cheapest contact adhesive you can get, its a mature product patents ran out years ago so don't pay for a premium"brand"

What about using some heavy duty double sided tape?

All suggestions are welcomed gentlemen but from experience I don't want to use the currently much advertised one in orange packaging imported from the USA - you all know the one I mean.

Don't think anyone was suggesting that Rolling Eyes

Just nip down to Screwfix, Toolstation or even B&Q, and buy a pot of unbranded contact adhesive, the formula is not proprietary these days, so dont be wasting your hard earned cash on a branded product!

Try Alpha Thixofix, for a short while I worked part time for a specialist vehicle builder and Thixofix is what they used for roof linings and internal trim etc. It widely available on line and not that expensive.

Off topic I know, but Toolstation seem to have a policy of opening their new stores as close as possible to existing Screwfix branches. Screwfix sent me a 10% off voucher in the post the other day, but for most stuff I bet Toolstation would still be cheaper... Laughing

After six visits to Screwfix for various items, I've come away with what I needed only once.

Cheers, Topny.
