I managed to have a look around Brunty a few weeks back, and I counted five parked up in the distance, and more have arrived since then Sad

Hi
It says it is destined for Brooklands

It is only 26 miles or so, but that could be another Monster Moves prog.

Shifting a VC 10 by road is a lot more difficult than a Canberra or a Gannet which they have already done.

The one at Dunsfold is now under the care of Brooklands, but will remain at Dunsfold on public display from what I read.

It is sad to see that the VC10 has ceased flying. I live under the flight path to Birmingham Airport and a RAF VC10 used to go there during the last few years. It was the sound that you noticed first and what a noise it was. Great to see it go overhead but unfortunately it meant that it was carrying a number of wounded servicemen being taken from Afghanistan to Hospital.

A small folder of old aviation photos and postcards was found at a sale recently, in them was this interesting shot of VC10 G-ARVC. It first flew (BOAC) in 1963. In 1966-7 it was leased to Nigeria Airways, the livery it's shown in below, before reverting back to BOAC.

Later it was converted to tanker spec with the RAF, before being scrapped in 2001. The forward fuselage survives.

Look at all the airport Karriers. It seems every airport had them and lots of them too. Imagine if Rootes would have survived.

Apart from flying in a Chipmunk whilst in the A.T.C. the V.C.10 was the first aircraft I flew in taking me out to Tengah Singapore in 1968.

Cheers, Tony.
