Hi everyone.

It’s great to be on this forum, all the way from Australia.
Some years ago I started on a journey of restoring an extremely rusted 1961 split screen VW transporter.
My problem was I had no idea of what I was getting into, and no experience in restoration. Armed only with motivation and the will to learn, I made some great progress in my first year.

Life got in the way for the next few years and moving to a new home without a garage, halted any more progress. In fact as the van had to sit out in the weather with just a tarp, and as such some of my hard work regressed.

But now I’m finally back onto this, and pleased to present my first comeback video, where I explore the concept of building a simple wooden buck to help re skin my engine lid door.

I had some fun using an English wheel for the first time.
In my video below, I learnt the hard way about using the correct anvil.

I also learnt how not to hammer form over a wooden buck.
Fun learning, and looking forward to getting it right.

Fantastic. I would not call that "simple". Very good how meticulous you are working. Please let us have more videos.

Reminds me of this restoration of a Rover P5B. I have spend half of yesterday evening looking at this topic: http://forum.retro-rides.org/thread/195083/rover-p5b-coupe-mgb-v8
The owner is fanatic about almost everything he takes in his hands. He also makes lots of wooden and steel bucks. The outcome will be better than a new car (looking at the time and attention he gives about every aspect). Although I have enormous respect for the skills and time he takes to do the work, it is not something I do or would do. Each to their own Razz
