A most interesting thread, and it is probably 20 years since I first heard of using Volvo 240 discs on the front. Only a slight modification to the uprights I believe. However, be careful about brake balance, since both Coopercraft and Zeus (same thing really) recommend that the rears are modified at the same time. A classic Jaguar specialist told me that hard application could result in a spin if you keep the original Dunlops. So I'd fit the better rears since that is what I have done and on no occasion have I felt an imbalance.
Louvres; I really see no problem with them as long as you aren't going to be a concours entrant. My E-type has had them from new of course and I have never had any rust or other problems.
Ignition; I switched a few years ago to an electronic 123 distributor and haven't regretted it. No more fiddling with points with rheumatic fingers! You'll need to change the HT leads to silicone ones though.
I've bookmarked the thread now so I can follow it. Best of luck.

Regarding the quote you have gained from the body shop, would it not be more prudent to retain them for all the prep and also to supply the paint etc.
Im just considering what disasters went on for you in the past, should anything such like happen again, by doing any prep yourself or supplying the paint would give the shop an 'out' in the event something occurs, it would be hard to nail the claim on them 100%.
well done on the progress.

All your ideas will be gratefully received - do please express your opinions and suggestions.
Incidentally every square inch of the ruined paintwork will have to removed.
I have stock of a deadly paint stripper or would you have the body soda blasted or use orbital sanders to remove the old paint.
I will not use heat guns for fear of distortion.
What are your opinions on solid state rather than points activated fuel pumps? | I would take the stripped body to a firm like SPL https://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/ I have used them for my MGA and a Morris 8, they will strip all the paint, under seal, filler etc and if required electro prime. https://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/classic-vehicle-solutions/
They have a number of Mk 2 Jaguars in their photo section.

Dave, I have been considering at length your suggestion of having the body professionally stripped and can I ask how satisfied you were with the results.
One thing is for certain, this is the second and LAST time this Mark 2 will be done so in for a penny..................
Can I ask you the lead time and could you by PM give me an indication of the cost please.
Thank you.

In case some of you are wondering why I have not reported any further progress, the main reason is because I have been advised not to remove the paint until the spring or until I can obtain temporary use of premises where I can use an industrial dehumidifier and "dry" heat it.
Space heaters I am told introduce dampness in the air and should not be used.
The first tasks are to get the car running again and work on the braking system. I haven't bought anything yet, brake wise for the rear but will report as soon as I do.
I'll report further once I get the engine running but quite a bit of preparatory work will be needed first. _________________ Starting Handle Expert
