I am happy to say that I have bought what I think might be quite a rare find. It is a brass AA car badge with the serial number 132716 which I believe dates it to 1916-18.(Poss.19) Working on the basis that not many private motorists were joining the AA during the First World War there can't be that many of these about.

This AA badge is a bigger, heavier version and measures 6 1/2" high. It is in pretty good condition for it's age. The early castings were somewhat less well finished than the later ones but that all adds to the charm I think.

I never place much store by the price of things but it is interesting to me that this particular specimen was part of a collection and originally had a price tag of £100. It cost me just £19 plus postage. Very Happy

Ray,

That certainly sounds like a bargain!

I have a much less impressive one 19772G that I think is from about 1933 and I thought that was old.

Yes, Peter. It is an absolute joy. It has cleaned up nicely. I fancy it will look good on the Dodge.

I have also picked up a rare, large size GB plate. It measures 11 3/4" across which is the same size as the fabulous N.O.S. (no holes) one on the Dodge that I bought a couple of years ago but is in poor condition. I soaked it in molasses for a week to remove the rust and have been painstakingly knocking out the dents and creases. Originally (I think) it would have been nickel plated all over then painted black letters on a white background. It must be old because the letter G is in the earlier style; so 1920's or early '30s I would think. The condition was much too poor for it to be put into use as it was so I intend to bring it back to as good as I can but it is more a labour of love if my time is taken into account.!
