My Disco II went off to its new home yesterday evening. Despite its numerous faults I was quite sad to see it go as we've had some interesting times, but the amount of work required to see it sorted again was too much to even begin contemplating, sadly.

Always sad to see another LR owner drop the brand. Any plans for another, or are you totally disillusioned? Very Happy
At times I think I must be double thick- skinned, as this new one is my sixth LR product!

Maybe a Series 1 or 2 Landy one day, but nothing newer than about 1970. I think I've done my stint with more recent LR products!!!!!

Slightly ahead of you there Rick, but then perhaps I'm older Smile
Six series followed by four RR classics … so do I deserve a medal or need committing to an asylum?

A great many models have served me well since the 'sixties, all of them old & some even older than me.

No comment! Smile Smile

In fairness, there were a number of things I did really like about my Disco, but the rust in addition to repeated engine woes were just too much for me to contemplate addressing.

In Australia I did think of buying a s/h Disco . But ended up buying a MWB diesel Landcruiser which I have had for 10 years . It is now 30 years old and I can now register it at a cheap rate as an historic vehicle ! Out in the country / bush they only drive Landcrusiers , tough and reliable . I know a guy that was stuck in Cairns Q'land for a week waiting for parts for his Disco !

Nothing to do with it being a Disco, Mog. My misguided mate has been waiting four weeks for a fuel pump part for his Shogun. Not sure exactly what part it is, but he's resorted to a s/h one on ebay.

I took my pal to collect his Shogun from the LPG man today, and he "tweaked" a couple of magic thingies on the Disco's gas system which should give it a little better mpg. It certainly feels smoother now, much nicer than the Shogun!

As an Aussie you'll have heard the old gag 'if you want to go into the bush buy a Landrover, if you want to come back again buy a Landcruiser' Embarassed

That reminds me of two rival bus companies down here TWC.
One logo said"Go with Harris" Underneath in the dust was written "Come back with Cled Williams"

I have had Discos and a series in the past and was missing my old 300TDI Disco.
A good friend offered me his old Range Rover, well I can't believe how rust free it is and how nice.
But some one paid £40K+ for this is 1995! its now worth £1000!

If it really IS corrosion free (very rare) & in good mechanical order you've bagged yourself a bargain as prices for the really good ones have been on the rise for some years due to their rarity. Enjoy Cool

I don't want to pee on your chips, but my old LSE looked rust-free, bar a liitle hole in the sill. That car is now scrapped, as once we started to dig in to it, there was nothing left to weld to. And good LSEs are fetching telephone-number money, but it just wasn't worth the effort.
There is no such thing as a used, rust-free Range Rover classic!

My '87 Vouge had only two owners & 40k on the clock (supported by many MOT certs.) when I bought it nearly ten years ago. It's had two full specialist Waxoyl / Dinatrol treatments in that time, the latest with annual checks & if there's any corrosion worth mentioning those operators, the MOT man (who also services the car) or myself have yet to find it. I don't think the car has ever been off-road, certainly not in my ownership & after 33 years still has the original main-dealer rear window sticker, number plates & tax disc holder. And no, it's not for sale Laughing
