I was talking with a number of Land Rover Defender owners this morning, nearly all had late models with either TD5 or TDCI Ford engines and some of them had dispensed with "ordinary" coolant and were running their vehicles with Waterless Coolant. All who had were using "Evans" brands.
Does waterless coolant have any application in classic cars I wonder?
There was a discussion on the BMW M3 Cutters forum some time ago and the opinions were varied. Most were not in favour.
I remember when I owned a Triumph Stag some owners were using Rolls Royce "Forlife" coolant and spoke highly of it.
I believe waterless coolant is a glycol based liquid with a boiling point of 375 degrees Fahrenheit and a remains liquid to minus 40 degrees.
What are your opinions? _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Hi Ellis,
Personally I would just stick with water and antifreeze, after all water is cheaper (at the moment anyway)
I have other stuff to waste my money on..... |

Wasn't there another thread on this recently, or am I thinking of another forum? (ETA - might be this thread I'm thinking of : http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17121&highlight=waterless )
The disadvantages seem to be (if I recall correctly) that it's not as good as dispersing heat so the engine will run a little warmer, and it can't be mixed with water so if you get a burst hose or similar while on the road, you either need to carry some to top the system up with once you've replaced it, or dump the (expensive) lot and fill with water until you can get it home. |
