Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire. Temp sender appears..as are most things on this car...to be unique ,or at least rare to type.

stamped Smiths, marked 3500/0 then another obscured digit which may also be a 0 or a 9 ?

60mm long....15mm across the threads..with a tapered seat.

Near open circuit cold...about 40ohms in boiling water ( does that sound right? )

Any idea who might have stock ? [/img][img]

Have you tried ASOC stores? These sort of parts they usually hold.
Alternatively, try Speedograph Richfield in Nottingham.
They do instrument repairs so should be able to tell you the technical info.

I had a similar issue.
Find one that fits in the hole, run the engine up to normal and see what it reads. If you are lucky you can add resistors to get the gauge to sit in the middle.
We initially used a decade box to switch in and out various values until we found the correct value.

In modern vehicles I have fitted these to trigger an alarm if too warm
