Superb car, what a lovely find. It is a Hawk saloon, rare too. If you google Hillman Hawk you will find a couple others but not many. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Thankyou,it's a lovely looking car, what tyres do you use and what grade of oil do you recommend in the engine? I drained it and put straight 30 in it as I already had some but was going to drop it again anyway.thanks again for your help! |

You are right Rick, the running boards are very wide as are the rear wings. The evenkeel suspension used by Hillman on these was partly developed by Alec Issigonis.
I will post some pics of mine too, its on the longer wheelbase and is a limousine with wind down division. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

On the back of the brochure there's a section on the new evenkeel wonder suspension, and among the other paperwork a booklet entitled electricalities which looks to be Lucas instruction of how to get the best from your Lucas electrical system. Not that I've any plans on selling the car ,and I know without seeing it ,it is a stab in the dark but any idea what amount I should be insuring it for? Also ,and I know this is a bone of contention but..........leave original or restore |

Leave original, she looks superb. You can't replace patina. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles.

That's my way of thinking too,any suggestions to preserve it?,if it was a tractor I'd oily rag it but seems a bit rough on a car! |

With regards the cars worth it is hard to say, the car is rare but Hillmans generally dont carry high prices.
When I insured the last classic that I had recently purchased I was asked what price I paid for her. The reason being if U had paid say £3k they were not keen on me insuring her for £10k a week later. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I'm with Rootes on this. You can always wash and polish it to give it some wet weather protection. Store it under cover for the winter once they start salting the roads and don't bring it out again until the spring rains have washed it all away.

This is the side on view of our Hillman 80 Limousine, she has the extended wheelbase so is longer than the Hawk Saloon, it can really been seen in this picture. She is totally original, bodywork is quite nice, the interior is aged but I am keeping it that way.
At a recent show a few people questioned why I wasn't planning to restore her!?! A stained headlining and some rips to the seats are just battle scars of her life. I cannot replace the patina and that lovely smell when you open the doors. She has lasted this long in this condition and its now my job/aim to preserve her as she is. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |
