The 1987 Richard-Lloyd-Racing Rothmans Porsche 962C that won the Kyalami 500 and Norisring 'Money Race' will be amongst the cars taking centre stage at the London Classic Car Show when it heads to Olympia London on 20-23 February 2020. Tickets are on sale from 08:00 GMT on 30 October for the show, which will honour exquisite machines and showcase some of the world’s finest classic cars and vintage models currently for sale.

The Rothmans Porsche 962C (chassis number 106/B) is the first car to be confirmed for ‘Car Stories’, a brand-new attraction that will debut at the 2020 London Classic Car Show. As the event moves to its new Kensington home, Car Stories replaces the Grand Avenue and will celebrate six of the world’s most iconic and interesting cars, all with an incredible story to tell. Presented by personalities from the industry, including designers, racing drivers and owners, Car Stories provides a platform to delve into the rich history of these special vehicles with the help of those who know them best.

“We’re incredibly excited to start announcing some of the special celebrations that will take place at our 2020 event. Car Stories gives us the opportunity to discuss some of the world’s most iconic and fascinating classic cars with people that have shared incredible moments in history with them,” says Bas Bungish, London Classic Car Show Event Director. “We’re honoured to welcome the Porsche 962C and will be announcing five more superstar cars with fascinating stories to tell in the run up to the show.”

Racing drivers Jonathan Palmer and Mauri Baldi guided the Liqui Moly-liveried Porsche to victory on the Norisring street circuit in the 1987 World Sportscar Championship. Featuring an ultra-aerodynamic body and vast wing developed by British privateer Richard Lloyd, the car was the first privately owned Group C car to win a race that season. Following victory in Germany, Palmer put the car on pole at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium and in the process set a new lap record for a sportscar and became the first sportscar driver to break the 200kph barrier.

For the final race that year, Richard Lloyd entered it to compete at the Kyalami 500 in South Africa, which was the last major event to be held on the original and much-loved circuit layout. On 28 November 1987, works Le Mans-winning driver Jochen Mass piloted the Rothmans-sponsored car with a factory-spec engine to victory in front of a 46,000-strong crowd.

Visitors to the London Classic Car Show will be able to see the car restored and race-ready to the exact specification and livery as raced by Mass.

Tickets for the 2020 London Classic Car Show go on sale from 08:00 GMT on 30 October 2019. The event will present the opportunity to see and purchase some of the most exquisite and sought-after classic and vintage cars currently for sale.

‘Early Bird’ tickets are available at £20 per adult from Wednesday 30 October until midnight on Friday 15 November 2019. Following this, advance tickets for the London Classic Car Show start from £25 per adult, £20 per child (6-16) and £75 per family (two adults, two children). Entry for children under the age of six years is free.

Tickets for Thursday’s Preview Evening, where an industry personality will be honoured with the show’s coveted Icon Award, start at £75. Premium tickets are available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, starting at £60 per adult, which include fast track entry, hospitality and show guide, as well as the chance to meet and participate in a private Q&A with Car Legends in the VIP area.

Iconic Audi quattro’s 40th anniversary to be celebrated at The London Classic Car Show.

One of the most iconic models to grace both road and rally – the Audi quattro – will be celebrated at The London Classic Car Show to mark 40 years since its unveiling. A specially curated display of some of the finest Audi quattro examples will be showcased at the event, which takes place on 20-23 February 2020 at Olympia London.

Launched at the 1980 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi quattro introduced a revolutionary permanent all-wheel-drive system that quickly established the brand’s reputation as an engineering tour de force. It transformed the world of rallying, winning World Rally Championship constructors’ titles in both 1982 and 1984, and helped Hannu Mikkola and Stig Blomqvist to claim the 1983 and 1984 drivers’ titles. Originally intended to be a low-volume model, the market demand was so high that it went into full-scale production for 11 years, resulting in 11,452 cars being made before production ceased in 1991.

Five prized quattro models will be showcased at The London Classic Car Show, which are part of Audi UK’s ‘Cherished Fleet’ of historic models. A 1981 left-hand drive quattro 10V in metallic blue will represent the car’s formative years; this early UK-specification model was produced before right-hand drive model development had been carried out and was subsequently introduced from 1982 onwards.

At the other end of the production line, one of the last quattro 20V models built will be on show. This 1991 2.2-litre, 20-valve quattro produced 220bhp and was considerably quicker than the 10V. Retained by Audi UK from new, it remains unregistered and is one of only two known right-hand drive examples that only has delivery mileage.

A 1985 Audi S1 E2 will represent the quattro in competition. This genuine Sport quattro rally car was driven by Swedish rally driver Stig Blomqvist to second place in the 1985 Rally of the 1000 Lakes in Finland, and then to victory by German driver Walter Röhrl in the Semperit Rallye later that season. The pairing finished second and third in the championship. Unfortunately, an accident at the RAC Rally for Röhrl left the car badly damaged, but it was rebuilt as a test car for the experimental PDK double clutch gearbox, a forerunner of the contemporary Audi S tronic dual-clutch transmission. Still active, the car has run at various events, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb.

Two more well-loved models in Audi’s Cherished Fleet will join them: the first carto form the fleet, a short-wheelbase 1985 Audi Sport quattro road car, which was purchased from Audi AG as a demonstrator in 1985 and is one of just over 200 manufactured. It was cosmetically restored ten years ago and has recently undergone a mechanical refresh to ensure it is fit for the anniversary celebrations this year.

Alongside will sit a 1990 metallic pearl white Audi quattro 20V that was originally acquired by Audi UK in the early 2000s. It is regularly used in the media for driving and display purposes and has become one of the fleet’s most popular and hardest working cars.

“As revered today as it was back then, the Audi quattro holds a very special place in the history of the Audi brand,” says Alex Fisk, Audi UK Digital PR Manager. “Almost 40 years to the day since it was first seen by the public, we’ve chosen to celebrate the Audi quattro’s special milestone at The London Classic Car Show amongst its passionate visitors that share our love for this magnificent machine.”

“Few cars are as iconic as the Audi quattro. Despite being produced in relatively low volumes, it had a huge impact on the automotive market and has left an even bigger impression on car aficionados. As with many classic enthusiasts, it’s a personal favourite of mine, and we can’t wait to see these incredible models to celebrate 40 years since its launch,” says Bas Bungish, The London Classic Car Show Event Director. “The Audi quattro celebration is set to be one of the highlights of the show, which is a must-attend event for classic car buyers, collectors and enthusiasts.”

Visitors to The London Classic Car Show will have the opportunity to view and purchase desirable cars from some of the industry’s most prestigious classic car dealers, as well as viewing carefully curated features that celebrate some of the most exotic and exquisite marques from throughout the decades. Highlights include Jochen Mass’ 1987 Rothmans Porsche 962C and the Maserati 250F owned by Sir Stirling Moss, in which he won the Monaco GP in 1956.

Bruce McLaren to be honoured at The London Classic Car Show.

Homage marks 50 years since the passing of this legendary racing driver and McLaren founder.

One of motorsports greatest icons, Bruce McLaren will be honoured at this year’s London Classic Car Show. 2020 marks 50 years since the tragic passing of undoubtedly one of F1’s true legends who, despite his untimely death, has left one of the most iconic legacies for generations of motoring and Formula 1 fans. In honour of the impact McLaren had on the industry, Jonathan Neale, Chief Operating Officer of the McLaren Technology Group, will accept The London Classic Car Show’s Icon Award on his behalf during the event’s Preview Evening on Thursday 20 February.

To play tribute to the late, great Bruce McLaren, a special selection of his cars and priceless personal memorabilia, including his racing jacket, crash helmet and trophies, will be on display at the Show from 20-23 February 2020 at Olympia London, courtesy of the McLaren Technology Centre. These include:

Austin 7 Ulster
Bruce’s father, Les McLaren, purchased the 1929 Austin 7 Ulster for $110. Bruce and his father painstakingly restored the car using second-hand Austin Seven parts. The experience of learning the mechanical side of the sport, as he worked on the tiny 4-cylinder 750cc engine, proved to be incredibly important for Bruce and his development. Bruce entered the Austin 7 Ulster into the hillclimb at Muriwai Beach in 1954; his first competitive driving experience.

M7C-1 Specification
The M7C was a one-off creation by Gordon Coppuck, reportedly only finished the night before its inaugural practice session at the 1969 International Trophy non-championship F1 race in Silverstone. Using a number of components that were found in the M10A Formula 5000 car, it notably featured a high front wing that was bolted to the chassis to gain front suspension. The engine was directly attached to the monocoque at the back and supported the gearbox and rear suspension.

M14D Specification
The M14D was designed by Gordon Coppuck and Jo Marquart and built for Andrea de Adamich in 1970. The vehicle was similar to the M14A in every way aside from the changes made to the rear end of the car to house the Alfa Romeo V8 engine.

M8D Specification
Tragically, the M8D is most remembered as the vehicle in which Bruce McLaren died. However, it also provided the team with one of the most successful years in Can-Am, winning nine of the ten rounds. Nicknamed ‘the Batmobile,’ the M8D was designed by Jo Marquart and produced in 1970 with a Chevrolet V8 engine producing a power output of 680bhp.

In addition, the helmet that Bruce wore during the 1969 Italian Grand Prix will be on display. Three trophies from some of his most iconic wins will also be showcased as part of this special tribute: from his first ever win in the 1954 hillclimb at Muriwai Beach, and his maiden Grand Prix victory at the 1959 United States Grand Prix, where he established a new record as the youngest grand prix winner at the age of 22 years and 104 days. Remarkably, this record was to stand for over four decades until finally beaten by Fernando Alonso in 2003. Finally, The Lady Wigram Trophy from winning the 100-mile race in 1964.

Alongside the commemorative Bruce McLaren feature, The London Classic Car Show will also celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Audi quattro and 50th anniversary of Range Rover, each marked with curated displays of key models.

New-for-2020 feature ‘Car Stories’ will relay the histories of six incredible cars, told by the people that know them best, including Adrian Newey OBE, Ian Callum CBE and Tiff Needell.

There will also be a vast range of magnificent machines for sale courtesy of top UK classic car dealers, including a matching numbers original Aston Martin DB4GT, a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster and an incredibly rare 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Series 5 Vantage in fast road configuration.
