To my horror while re-visiting some old boxes of junk in the cellar, many of which have been un-touched for around 15 years, I discovered several packs of old 35mm negatives. Many are scrap sadly, and others were stuck together and pretty much ruined as it can get a little damp in there. A few strips have recognisable images on them still so I'll try the scanner, but I'm pretty peeved about their condition.

I'd forgotten they were there. So it was good to find them again, but disappointing to see the state they are in. I'll try scanning a few, but I don't hold out much hope of decent scans. Fortunately I do have prints of most of them, but I can see a few negs of big Dodge for example which I don't think I have print copies of, which makes it especially galling.

I am about to get my New Year resolution under way Rick. I have 2,000 and more old negatives (motor racing and rallies etc) which I am taking to a specialist to have scanned. Plus there are many others from many years ago where I have no idea what's on them! They were mostly classified in ring binders so no condition problems luckily. But I'll be interested to see what comes out of it all.

If you have a couple of strips that are stuck together, you could try soaking them in water. It shouldn't have any detrimental effect on the image as the developing process involves them being soaked in water, and once "fixed" that should be it. It might be enough to get them apart and then you can have a go, while still in water, to try to soak anything else off that might be stuck to them.

Try with a couple of strips that don't look as if they contain anything significant, if you can.

Mike is right. Unless the cause of the sticking together is some nasty spilled material, then water soaking should allow the negs to separate. I started doing my own develop and print of film when I was just 8 years old, in 1953, without the benefit of developing tanks, running water or electricity. I have dabbled in the hobby over the years and started my son into D & P when he was very young. It is fairly normal for negs, and prints, for that matter, to become stuck together if subjected to moist atmosphere, and many is the time that I have soaked them apart then let them dry off without any deterioration of the surfaces.

I'll give that a go, thanks. Some of the strips have gone sticky and the surface of the strips have broken down (for want of a better phrase), to the extent that the images are no longer visible, so I don't hold out much hope of them being saveable.
