My Dad's first car was an MG M type two seater sports and was the first car that I ever went in. I had the little storage area behind the seats.

I can just remember (1950s) my parents and I were on holiday in Porlock and the MG broke down on the notorious Porlock Hill. The flywheel had come adrift. Fortunately, the owner of Doverhay garage had taken an interest in the little MG and gave my Dad permission to use his garage and tools on a Sunday. Dad soon fixed the car and we were able to get home in time for him to get to work on the following Monday.

I can't imagine that happening these days!

As you can see Doverhay garage still survives. It used to be Exmoor Classic Cars and is still in the ownership of Stephen Johns.

I can't see many garages letting you repair your car on their premises and with their tools at all these days!
