I notice that the team putting together the upcoming Restoration show at the NEC, announced on Twitter that it'd be going ahead as usual - prompting a lot of people to express their concern/annoyance etc at the idea of it continuing, in the current climate.

I doubt there'll be many shows to go to at all this year, the way things are going.

It is such a shame Rick. We are involved in a lot of VE day things and have been really looking forward to it all. It just cant go on in this current situation.

I'd imagine bigger shows like the Restoration Show will take advice from their insurers. They'll be massively out of pocket if they cancel before the insurance company tell them to, much like people going on holiday don't cancel until their insurance tell them not to go.

It might sound very commercialised, but I could imagine in some cases cancelling a show without insurance backup could take some organising companies out of business. Even if it goes ahead, it's down to the individual whether they decide to attend, of course.

It may well be another quiet summer for car shows after several summers of wet weather and stuff like Foot and Mouth disease, though in the scheme of things that is probably a minor issue,

Lands End trial has been postponed [until september for now]
In line with MSuk current Covid policy.

Government policy [which may involve restrictions on large gatherings, etc?] will change as time progresses.

Personally, I shall not be marshalling on any events/rallies/trials for the moment.

Whilst I am of an age, but not having 'health' issues, I know chums who do....so would it be fair to them if I placed myself in the line of fire?

That is something we need to consider?

Also, organisers need to bear in mind how their actions are perceived by the public-at-large? {Who may, or may not, be in touch with reality?}

My father is 74, he comes down the yard with me every Sunday morning.

Imagine this time next week if the current news is correct being over 70 will mean he should be in self isolation.

Last I heard, on the BBC news just now, they're considering asking/advising over-70s to self-isolate at some point for a period of weeks/months, but it didn't come across as being compulsory (despite what the Daily Mail says) - yet, at any rate.

Of course anything can change.

Thinking positively then, perhaps we may get some shows in towards the end of the summer.

There seem to be a lot of postponements rather than cancellations.

My cynical nature presumes that a lot of people will hang on to their tickets because they'll no doubt be valid for the postponed event and it'll be something to look forward to. If the event is cancelled, then tickets will need to be refunded.

I am hoping that later shows will run once things have settled down - presuming it doesn't rain all summer and flood all the venues, of course. Smile
