I’ve just pulled the engine and gearbox out of my Austin ten. I’m going to rebuild them myself as much as I can. I’ve heard from one guy who rebuilt his engine in 1/4 of the space I have and being quite a practical person I’m confident I’ll be able to do it. I wouldn’t mind any help and advice that’s out there, especially in regards to the gearbox. I understand how an engine works so I can look at a part and think “that’s [whatever] so it must go here”. But a gearbox is totally new and unknown.
I’m going to have to do a total rebuild but I’m doing the drive train first and because I can’t afford to get the body work and interior done at this stage.

Sorry it’s late and I can’t remember how to put photos up on here so right now if you want to see some photos I’ve set up a Facebook page for my restoration.

I’ll try load some photos in the morning.

I don't have much Austin 10 info but there is quite a good section in Volume II:

covering both engine and gearbox overhaul of the Austin 10.

Hi
Probably worth having a copy of this as well.

https://www.abebooks.co.uk/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&cm_sp=SearchF-_-home-_-Results&an=&tn=austin+ten&kn=&isbn=

We did a top and bottom engine overhaul using one borrowed from the library back in '59.
Is it a wide body or narrow body?

Matt

one thing I would say is that gearbox's seem more daunting than engines, in reality they are much simpler, many faults can be rectified with new bearings and bushes, that are generally available off the shelf.

keep us posted on your progress
