To quote a reputed statement from Ettore Bugatti "I make cars to go- not to stop!"
I must admit that the brakes on my 1948 Flying Standard convertible were moderate when proceeding in a forward direction, but strangely were completely ineffective in reverse. If I had to reverse anywhere on a hill, I had to arrange to only back up the hill which allowed gravity to be the brakes. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

I must admit to not being too keen on the smaller Standards, I think its a good starter project but if I had too I would go for one of the larger pre-war Flying Standards. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I remember taking the cylinder head of one, never again! I made a hollow drill to the oxide off the studs, head still wouldn't shift, tried turning it over with the nuts loose, nope, I ended up taking the engine out, removing the crank, rod and pistons, clamping up the block and eventually after much swearing, shifted it with a lump of fence post up no's 1 & 4 bores and applying a 14lbs sledgehammer. _________________ 1974 Mk1 Escort. |
