Hi everyone firstly thank you for letting me join I’m really glad and slightly car mad, I’m really busy and although I’ve had some lovely cars in the past I’m now after something more classic with a great heritage, I’d love a mga 1500, it’s my dream car but I honestly don’t have time to love one like I should so was wondering if anyone out there knows of car shares, clubs etc, I’d love a few days here and there but I don’t have a garage to store and really would love to share a few cars, am I just wishful thinking and it doesn’t happen ?
Thanks all

May I also welcome you, G.
You would not be the first classic car enthusiast to have asked that question!!! Which got me thinking...(most unusual but it can happen!)
There are classic car sharing clubs - mainly in London - where you pay through the nose to drive one of their ostensibly fine cars. They own the cars and as Rick says they "hire" them out - presumably to club members.
My idea was much less profit orientated. What if a car club existed that had a scheme whereby club members swapped their own cars for week ends (lets say) and no cash changed hands. I suppose it would work best if the cars being swapped were of a similar value although not necessarily type or even make?
This arrangement possibly already exists between friends; I imagine it is all very informal.
No doubt such a scheme will have it's critics. However, if a group of like minded people decide it would be a good idea then perhaps it could develop into something. Who knows? |

That's a nice idea Ray though had a loan scheme existed within the Riley world and I'd had a chance to live with one for a week I might not have been so keen to own a One-Point-Five!
As Rick mentions, there are already classic car hire companies around the UK offering the more popular, i.e. better known to the general public, cars - perhaps there's a role for the FBHVC in encouraging clubs to set up such schemes; they would help further the cause of classic ownership into the future. _________________ David
