Hi all,
I'm toying with the idea of combining all the ownership posts within the Your Cars section into a single category, rather than having the separate manufacturer categories as there are currently. I'd like to try and encourage more posters to contribute to threads that they might not otherwise spot, if they currently stick to their own maker's category only and don't venture further around the forum.
Thoughts?

I would have thought the categories might be better expanded rather than condensed into one; although I appreciate space is limited.
Perhaps have a "your cars" heading but leading to a separate page with a more extensive alphabetical list of makes from which to choose.? |

I agree 100%. I for one only ever look in two of the choices.

I use the yellow/orange folder icon to tell me which boards and threads have new posts.
If I want to find older posts about a particular vehicle or problem I use the search function, and tick posts rather than topics.
The only comment I have to make about that is that a boolean search using AND, OR, NOT would be useful as sometimes using 2 or more words ends up with results which only contain one of them.
By the way that De-Bug warning is still coming up after submitting a post.

The problem with expanding is that there may only be one post in a particular category, eg your TC resto thread under "MG". No other MG threads are running right now. Same for Vulgalour and his Lanchester. Spreading things too thinly makes people have to click more, jumping from make to make category, which leads to even less involvement over time as people get fed up clicking even more than they do now.

| We went through the same debate with the MR forum and concluded exactly the same; that categorisation wouldn't work for the rarer models as potentially only a handful of members would read them. |
