The Luftwaffe left quite an impression on that old place, sadly, is that an SS way over to the right?

Yes, no mystery about the SS. Although it was "Heale's Garage, Hackney 1952" so might be a Jaguar MkIV. Just the one mystery between the Prefect and Minx and possibly the one on the other side of the Minx. Morris 12/4 Series 3??

That Wolseley number looked familiar...but I can't quite make it out...Could it be the same former police car?

Time for a POTD, this is a catalogue describing options available to buyers of the 1950s Commer Cob.
Added to OCC in January 2018:

POTD is one of several such scans to feature on the 1930s tax discs page.

I'm still curious as to where this photo might have been taken?

Bit of a long shot, but it could be a Singapore registration number; they were one or two letters plus numbers well in to the 1950s. _________________ in the garage: 1931 Austin 7, 1953 Lancia Appia

Interesting, someone also suggested Penang/Malaysia as a possibility.

"The algorithm started with a state prefix and a number sequence which ranged from 1 to 9999. For example, P 1 would be the first registration plate of Penang. Once P 9999 was achieved, an alphabetical sequence was added to the right of the state prefix; PA 1 was the result." _________________ http://www.nostalgiatech.co.uk
