Ash framed? Deserves to be saved, and avoid the butchery of a special conversion

You are right, Rick. Too many old Rileys have been spoilt over the years. Unfortunately, it would seem that the demand for donor cars as the basis of so called "specials" is greater than for restoration.

Unfortunately money talks. Why spend a fortune on this car when the end result is unlikely to be worth £15,000 (there's a very nice one for sale at £12,000 which hasn't sold in many months)? Create a special out of the mechanics and the end result could be worth three or four times as much. The VSCC is unlikely to accept the resulting special, but there are many other prestigious events which will welcome it with open arms.

At least this is only a Nine, which is not the best basis for a competitive special; if it had been a 12/4 the chances of it surviving as a saloon would be almost nil.

I think its a lovely car, we see very few prewar Rileys on the rally scene down here in Somerset.

Too many specials created from worthy and saveable survivors in my opinion, and thats not just restricted to Rileys. I have seen some lovely Hillmans chopped down for specials because they simply dont warrant money being spent on them due to their low end value.
