Agreed, a very trim little car.

My thinking too, John, that's why I posted it, in the hope that someone will remove the temptation Laughing

If everything has been done to the car as indicated in the advert, then it sounds as if somebody has bought themselves a very nice vehicle at a reasonable price.

Unfortunately the buyer was a dealer, so it's now for sale at an increased price!

Now with yet another dealer, and another £1,000 increase! Do they think we're all stupid?

I shall not name him but one dealer I knew a few years ago would not buy a car unless he could at least double the price after it had been titivated with. He made a comfortable living, thank you very much.

Although I probably would never buy from such a dealer, I cannot see what is wrong with it. If someone is happy with the price a dealer asks, then why not?

If someone wants a car for the lowest price possible, he has to investigate. There are many ways to get a car. Cheapest probably would be outside any sale system, so from one person to another. This is also the hardest because how would you find such a person / car?
The most easy way and convenient is buying from a dealer. What surprises me is the amount of people that do not care to overpay at a dealer, even though they are not rich at all. The same for modern cars. It seems for many they do not care to spend hundreds more at a "reputable" dealer.
But, as said, if everybody is happy then why not. Just not for me (or any sane person).

I was careful not to make a value judgement. There is no come back from a private sale so perhaps that is something to consider when wincing at dealer prices.

I don't have a problem with a dealer making a profit, that's the nature of any business. What saddens me is when a car moves from dealer to dealer for more and more money without ever finding a private buyer. There's another example at the moment, of an early Lancia Y10 which is now with its third dealer and now at twice the price it was a year ago (and has also miraculously lost half its recorded mileage and number of previous owners!)

I believe it is fairly commonplace amongst antique dealers. Some rare cars are like 'Old Masters'. Once they get on the International merry go round they never get off.!

The thing that ought to be stamped out is the clique of dealers who attend auctions and agree beforehand who is getting what in some grubby little deal where the car ends up on their 'circuit'.

Hi
I never understood how a ring worked, even if they are going to re-auction between themselves afterwards, surely a dealer can always be outbid by a private buyer who isn't looking to make a profit on the deal.

Yes they can be out bid by a private buyer but it is generally the case that when supply outstrips demand many cars are either sold with provisional bids or are left unsold.
