good afternoon ,
i have recently purchased a 1952 Bentley R-Type by Graber , chassis number B342SR and i need help filling in the massive gaps in its history .
It was delivered to the Swiss dealer in 1952 for onward shipping to Graber and even have the actual buyers name (Hans Gerther) . After this though , i cannot find any more information on the vehicle until it was registered in Jersey for a couple of years in the early sixties .
At some point it was modified with a different rear end and the bumper over riders were removed , probably in an attempt to modernize its look . It was not successful and frankly looks quite awful . Itis currently being shipped to the UK from its resting place of the last 30 odd years so i will post up some photos when she is here .
Any help in filling in the gaps would be most appreciated . |

WOW! That's a rare car!!
Graber had such a delightful light touch with everything they did.
Looking forward to seeing photos of the car!
(As to finding it's history, sorry but I really wouldn't know where to begin). |

Welcome along, look forward to seeing photos.
This could well be one of the threads that relatives of former owners stumble across over time. If you know what its registration was in Jersey, or at any other point, you might think about it including it here too. Then it'd get picked up by the search engines, and if anyone searches for it in future (say from looking at an old photo) this thread will pop up in the results.
Stranger things have happened.

Have you contacted Graber Freunde?
Hans Dietrich, Scheidgasse 35, CH-3800, Unterseen, Switzerland, may be able to help (sorry, I don't have an email contact).
Your car may well be Hans Gerther's second Graber Bentley; a Hans Grether purchased a Mk VI Bentley with Graber body in 1949 (chassis B82FV). _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

Good afternoon gents ,
Thanks for the replies .
The vehicles registration number whilst in Jersey from 1963 to 1964 was :- J15758 -
I have not tried Graber Freunde , but i will try them today .
I have checked with the UK DVLA and it was never registered in the UK according to them .
A request for more information has been sent to the Swiss Car Register foundation and I am awaiting a reply .
Attached is the copy build card as supplied recently by Bentley Motor Cars from their archives .
I am under no illusion that this will be a slow and painful process as I have spent many hours searching for more information and all I keep finding are questions and contradictions about this car . I will post more about each one as Get more information. |
