Very sad, amazing that he commentated at the 1949 British GP, and continued for over 5o years, many of us grew up listening to his commentaries,

Just read that he was a Tank Commander during the war.

A great commentator but I sometimes thought the competitors he commented on could see him far enough. My impression was that when he was remarking how well someone was doing the very next thing was that they were off the track! And a frequent occurrence too.

It was rumoured that Nigel Mansell had considered offering him money not to mention him in the commentary, due to the crashes and breakdowns that often followed.
