Another less obvious ignition trouble is poor earthing of the the contact breaker. If it is mounted on a metal plate then the screws securing the plate to the distributor body might be loose or if it uses a Bakelite base plate for the contacts then the internal wiring within the Bakelite is a common failure that is easily fixed by adding a surface wire.

So, lots of work going on with the Commer now. Last week we spent a day removing the wooden body in order to rub down the chassis. Also, the body is quite rotten so we will work on it off the lorry which gives us better access.



The chassis is very short on the lorry and as you can see is fitted with a very hefty and original wartime towbar.
