Having used up the last of my old stock Smiths sleeved thermostats last year, I am wondering what to put in the boot in case of a future failure. Most of the thermostats now seem to fail closed, and when mine failed it failed open of course. Al I had to do was stop at a bar and beg an old carton and partially blank the radiator I'm sure Peter Crespin will know just what replacement is suitable nowadays - it's a 1961 3.8 E-type. Annoyingly I was searching the net, came across a reference to an MG one and then the screen went blank and I lost the reference, never to be seen again. There seem to be mixed reports about the SNG Barratt replacement too. So, advice from the members would be most helpful.

That looks like a 'wax-stat' to me, which will fail closed.
It's the 'bellows' style that fails open that are hard to find.
On the other hand, the modern, wax, ones are around 5GBP locally.

Problem solved. Had an email from a friend who still has some NOS. He'll test one in some warm water and let me have it if OK.
