Looking through the parts list for my 1942 Commer it states the front brake pipes as 'Lockheed 1710'.

I have looked on Google and ebay and can find no reference to this part number, does anyone out there happen to have a Lockheed catalogue that may reference them?

The above firm [no personal experience] list the Lockheed 1710 as HAP 1710,
Lockheed flexible hose.

I suggest the part number refers to length and types of fittings?

Maybe a call/email to them might help?

I use Nelson Stokes for all hoses we supply, If they can't identify from a application, just tell them what fittings you require and the hose length.

According to Lockheed catalogue your hose should be 13 1/2" long with 11/16" ANFS x 16 TPI male threads each end.

Was it true, or an urban myth, that around the time of the HA to HC Vivas Vauxhall had a period when they had to fit a mixture of Lockheed and Girling brake components and that this was what lead to the end of the myth that you HAD to use the correct manufacturers' fluid and brought about universal brake fluid.

Certainly on the HC, the brakes fitted were whatever were on the side of the production line when the car came past - there is no record of which car had which manufacturer's brakes, and many have Lockheed on one end and Girling on the other. Both of mine are Girling on the front and Lockheed on the back, though that might have been intentional.

I believe some of that was down to a struggle in getting parts during the various periods of industrial action that were rife in the 1970s. I don't know whether it contributed to the demise of specific fluids.

Well, the pipe was here the next day. It's all fitted now. I'll be using them again.
