Hi All,
After sorting out the smoking problem I re-set up my twin Stromberg barbs as per the workshop manual and the car started first go and ran well for a few hours. After coming back to it a few days later it started playing up. It would fire and run rough for a few seconds then spit out of both carbs and stop. Tried to start it a few more times with the same result but it would run slightly longer but I could not keep it running. Every time it spat it would stop. I could not even apply any throttle pressure. This car is driving me mad.
Can anyone out there give me some ideas on what is happening and the cure.
Many thanks
T

When you said Strombergs my first thought was the diaphragms.

Thanks for inquiring. The short answer is no and the smoking has come back.
However, I was so fed up with all the problems and decided to pull the motor and go for a re-build.
Took the head in to my local engineering shop for them to start work on the overhaul and they immediately came up with some problems such as a couple of burnt out valves and some worn guides. Now the problems start again. I can't find anyone that has guides for this engine. Does anyone know of anywhere I can get some. The engine is the Rootes group 3 litre as used in the Super snipe and the Imperial. Or has anybody any ideas on how I can get these refurbished or made somewhere. On the car shows on TV such as car S.O.S they seem to find everything that they need. (If only I was that lucky)
Looking forward to some replies
Many thanks

Might be worth speaking to Glen at Norfolk Humbers (07799 216533)

I believe many engine builders can get any sort of guide turned up?

Even in phosphor bronze, if preferred?

[Providing, I presume, they are simple 'tubes'?]

When I needed to source valve guides for pre war Morris's before getting a manufacture quote, I scoured modern guides and found one with the correct dimensions;
