TICKETS ON SALE FOR NEC CLASSIC WITH SPECIAL DISCOUNTS TO SUPPORT GETTING THE INDUSTRY MOVING AGAIN

Show opening 12-14 November is on track as government roadmap out of lockdown remains on target.

Discount codes to all enthusiasts offered for the first time in the show’s history.

Covid secure measures to be implemented in line with government guidelines.

Tickets now on sale via advanced online booking.

Tickets for the 2021 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, are now on sale with special discount codes available to enthusiasts to help get the classic car industry moving again following lockdown.

Show Director Lee Masters explains: “Like everyone else, we’ve had to sit on the side-lines through the lockdown. We know some of our exhibitors have struggled without events taking place and we’re all craving to get out and about.

“So to do our bit to help get the classic car community moving again, for the first time ever, we are going to be releasing discount codes that everyone can use. Historically, we have only given money saving codes to our exhibiting clubs, but this year we will also be offering them to all our partners, media outlets, and exhibitors, as well as our own social media channels and newsletters.”

The show is being planned with a number of covid safety measures still in place that can adapt with any changing guidelines. Visitors will be asked to choose a specific arrival time and entrance hall from which to enter the show. The organisers are planning the event to ensure everyone gets the best possible experience whilst keeping safety the number one priority for all attendees. More information can be found on the shows website.

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, is scheduled to be held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 November 2021. Tickets are now on sale. NEC CLASSIC REVEALS 2021 SHOW THEME AS

‘THE JOURNEY CONTINUES…’

· Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, held 12-14 Nov 21

· The 2021 show theme is ‘The Journey Continues…’

· Clubs and exhibitors encouraged to take part in annual show theme

· Tickets now on sale via advanced online booking

The theme of this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, has been revealed as ‘The Journey Continues…’

Each year, the organisers challenge the exhibiting clubs and traders to create displays around a suggested theme that they can interpret in their own way. The show also creates feature displays and entertaining stage segments that are in keeping with the theme.

Show Director Lee Masters said: “We wanted the 2021 show theme to reflect where we all are right now – and that’s continuing our journey. Our lives and hobbies were somewhat put on hold due to covid but now, as the government roadmap unfolds, we can get back on the road, in every sense.

“So the journey continues… as it always has. The show, now in its 37th year, continues to grow and evolve as does our community. Classics continue to be handed down from generation to generation, but they too can evolve. There are a significant number of Continuation cars now available as well as vehicles that have had a change of use.

“But at a basic level, we can get our classics out and get back on the road, be it exploring the amazing routes around the UK or beyond.”

Headline sponsor Lancaster Insurance will be doing just that as its VW Camper restoration nears completion before it drives around the coast of Britain before being auctioned in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager for Lancaster, said: “The Classic Motor Show is an unmissable event for enthusiasts. The past year has been extremely challenging for everyone and the show comes at a time when, hopefully, life can begin to see a return to normal for all of us.

“I’m very much looking forward to the auction of our van from Camper Round the Coast and, of course, seeing the vast array of classic cars on display.”

This year’s show is being planned with a number of covid safety measures still in place that can adapt with any changing guidelines.

When booking tickets, visitors will be asked to choose a specific arrival time and entrance hall from which to enter the show. The organisers are planning the event to ensure everyone gets the best possible experience whilst keeping safety the number one priority for all attendees. More information can be found on the show’s website.

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, is scheduled to be held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 November 2021. Tickets are now on sale. Check the website www.necclassicmotorshow.com

NEC CLASSIC SHOWCASES ELECTRIC CLASSIC CARS IN MOTION

•‘Our Friends Electric’ showcases classic electric vehicles with a brand new driving feature within Hall 5.

•The models in motion include a 1912 Baker Electric, converted classics and ‘restomod’ vehicles.

•Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, held 12-14 Nov 21.

•Tickets on sale via advanced online booking

This year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, is embracing the future with a brand new feature showcasing not only the look of classic electric cars but also how they drive.

Twice-daily, a range of electric classics will be driving around a purpose built oval within Hall 5, next to the Discovery Live Stage, with Wheeler Dealers’ Mike Brewer talking to the various companies and owners.

Show Director Lee Masters said: “Electric cars may seem like they’re fast becoming part of our future but what most people don’t realise is that they’ve been part of our motoring heritage for over 100 years.”

This includes the 1912 Baker Electric, on loan from Mr Andrew Wood. Manufactured in Ohio from 1899 to 1914, the first Baker vehicle was a two seater with a selling price of $850 and boasted Thomas Edison as one of its first buyers. Edison also designed the nickel-iron batteries used in some Baker Electrics.

Unlike other early cars, the Baker Electric needed no cranking, had no gasoline smell and was essentially maintenance-free. Not surprisingly, it was marketed to women. In late 1910, the Baker Electric was quite luxurious and priced at $2,800. It had a seating capacity of four passengers.

These days, owners include Jay Leno in the USA and there are only three Baker Electrics on the UK’s DVLA database including this example, of the 85 historic vehicles powered by electricity.

Amongst the other electric cars that will be driving will be the Porsche 356 inspired Electric Chesil E, the Westfield Eleven, an electric replica of the iconic Lotus Eleven produced in the 1950’s to race at Le mans, and the Westfield Sports.

The RBW Electric Roadster ‘restomod’ will also feature. The roadster is a brand new electric car with a MGB heritage bodyshell that has been slightly modified. Whilst the car has all the styling of a classic car, it drives like a modern sports car.

These will be joined by converted classic cars from Electric Classic Cars, the subject of Discovery Channel’s Vintage Voltage. Founder Richard Morgan has converted a whole range of cars from a Mini and a Land Rover to a Ferrari and BMW 2002.

Masters added: “With some classics being converted and other ‘restomods’ coming to market, we wanted to highlight the options available to enthusiasts who are interested in electric motoring but still want that classic styling. It’s a perfect fit for our show theme of The Journey Continues…”

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, will be held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 12 to Sunday 14 November 2021. Tickets are on sale. Check the website www.necclassicmotorshow.com.

Hope to be there Saturday too - don't forget the CV19 hurdles you have to negotiate before being permitted entry:

I enjoyed the NEC show, though there were some notable companies missing from the autojumble. I hope that's nothing more than them keeping away due to uncertainty as to whether it might be called off, rather than an ongoing move away from the show.

I loved it (I always do) and thought that the turn out, though a little down, was very good in the circumstances.

As ever I treated myself to a couple of Sporting Bears rides, this year a Lotus Europa (fabulous but a bugger to get out of!) and a Daimler SP250 Dart (totally addictive engine/exhaust sound)

LANCASTER INSURANCE CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW, WITH DISCOVERY+ MAKES TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO BIRMINGHAM’S NEC

•63,328 enthusiasts attended over the three show days.
•Triumph cars and a Triumph motorbike won all of the headline awards.
•Motoring TV stars entertained the crowds on the discovery+ Live Stage.
•Next year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, held 11-13 Nov 22

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, made a ‘triumphant’ return to Birmingham’s NEC over the weekend after last year’s postponement due to Covid.

A 1969 Triumph TR6 owned by Gary McVeigh won the coveted Meguiar’s Club Showcase trophy, while Jake Clappison followed in his dad Paul’s footsteps to win the public vote in the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership competition with his 1979 Triumph Spitfire. John and Jackie Cotterill won the Bike Pride of Ownership award with their Triumph Speed Twin motorcycle.

Show Director Lee Masters said: “We were thrilled to be back at the NEC and want to send our heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors, traders, exhibitors, car clubs and visitors who have supported us. The goodwill and love we have received has been beyond our wildest dreams. It has been an emotional show for all concerned.”

With around 3,000 cars on show across seven halls, 270 car clubs showcased various marques and models ranging from the AC Owners Club to the XR4 Register, celebrating milestone anniversaries that occurred in 2020 as well as 2021.

Silverstone Auctions had sales throughout the show, securing a whopping £8.3million worth of car sales and £550,000 of motorcycles in its first dedicated sale, both hammering away 81% of the respective catalogues. There was an additional £180,000 in automobilia sold with an 84% conversion rate.

The Sporting Bears Motor Club raised £28,913 from its popular Dream Rides. The ‘Bears’ gave ten-mile passenger rides to visitors in exchange for a charitable donation. The charities benefiting from this year’s show include Together 21, Keech Hospices, Derian House and Beaulieu Respite care unit.

A new feature for 2021 was ‘Our Friends Electric’ which put the spotlight on electric classic vehicles. Sceptical enthusiasts were thrilled to see a 1911 Baker Electric actually drive around the arena. This was followed by Richard Morgan of Electric Classic Cars’ converted VW Beetle from the TV show Vintage Voltage. EcoClassics’ 911, Westfields’ new prototype Sports and RBW Electric Classic Cars’ Roadster were also in motion along with Mike Brewer’s own Porsche Taycan.

Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager of headline sponsor Lancaster Insurance, said: “It was amazing to see the classic car community reunite over the past three days. The show is always a calendar highlight but was something special this year. Thank you to all involved and we can’t wait to do it again next year.”

Other show highlights included the discovery+ Live Stage, where host Mike Brewer was joined by his Wheeler Dealers co-stars Marc ‘Elvis’ Priestley and Ant Anstead. Other stars appearing included Jimmy Doherty and Jimmy De Ville from Jimmy Doherty’s Dream Builds, Paul Cowland from Salvage Hunters Classic Cars, Helen Stanley from Motor Pickers, and Ant Partridge from Goblin Works Garage.

The Practical Classics team was joined by the Morris Marina Owner’s Club and Ital Register to frantically revive a 1971 1.3 Coupe which hadn’t run for 30 years, restoring it in front of the live audience. There were huge cheers when it fired up and drove off the stage at the end of Sunday’s show.

The next Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, will be held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 November 2022.

I suppose given "the situation", 8000 down from the previous show isn't that terrible. There will still be plenty of people who aren't willing to go into crowded spaces. I was talking to a couple of guys from our car club who had decided to give it a miss this year, and normally we'd get a car-full to share the fuel costs but these was only two with us this time (we didn't go in my car, where two is a car-full).
