No makes or types I hadn't heard of, or seen, though....Surprised I didn't catch any Sunbeam Rapiers? {Or was I sneezing when one came up?]
I draw attention to the two [three, actually] Morgans....?
Nice to see an example of each of the two main body types Morgan offered? [Aside from seat numbers]
Namely, the Coupe, [the first 4 wheeler shown] and then the roadster.
The coupe was perhaps a lot more civilised, a gentleman's, or lady's, car, rather than a hairy chested come-rain-or-shine drivers car?
The difference being, much higher, and level, door tops....[I believe some had wind-up windows too?], and a bigger, fixed windscreen, and proper wood dash top.
I'm digging into a faulty memory here but, before WW2, Morgan tried out the fitment of a Ford V8 [but Ford refused to supply, so didn't really see light of day]...Fitted into the pre-war 4/4 chassis, apparently went like stink up the Morgan test hill [outside Malvern].....
Anyway, I seem to recall, since Morgan would never 'waste' a motorcar, the V8 ended up in a coupe bodied car owned and driven by one of the younger Morgan ladies.....?? Not sure if it wasn't a daughter? I haven't got my old Morgan history books to hand, to check.....seeing as I don't have a Morgan any more [mine was a '39, 4/4 4 seater]
Seeing the Dellow, suddenly made me wonder.....how many of those roadsters, etc, could one actually climb in to, wth the top in place?
I know the Dellow was almost impossible to get into with the top up, by anyone of any stature? Or whilst a passenger was present?
Indeed, I suspect many of the 'open' motorcars were left like that, come rain or shine, as a matter of expediency [and, being able to ''see out?''}
I'm thinking of wipers not a lot better than those of a Series 1 LandRover in the pouring rain....or sidesceens that were impossible to see out of...even if one could get one's head low enough to see around the solid bits?
Not to mention the two bumps on the roof where the driver's and passenger's heads were pressed up into the fabric of the soft top...not good when wet?
I know, as a [what weather?] driver, [having a Dellow and a CAnnon] that if the rain was bucketing down, seeking out a handy bridge to park up under was another useful driver's tool.
Just till the rain passed, that is?
More than once, when driving to or from an event in the Cannon [which had no roof at all].....I've been found parked on the hard shoulder under a motorway bridge.....ostensibly ''broken down''....
Luckily the ignition switch and starter button were separate, so I could turn the starter, but not the ignition?
''Won't start, Officer....see?'' ''Oh look, the rain has eased....miracle of miracles, it starts fine now!! Thanks for stopping, Officer!''
