There were mythical beast’s at Wiscombe Park for the Five Club's meeting....the roaring dragons of the Gilbern Owners Club. There is a long history between the Welsh marque and Wiscombe Park with the first Gilbern competing at the venue in 1962.
There were ten cars competing for the Gilbern Wiscombe Cup. The cars were built between 1959 and 1973. The marque is kept alive today by a very enthusiastic owners club. A lot of the cars have the mechanicals from MG’s and Ford under their fibre glass skin, but there was one fire breathing dragon in the paddock.
The Gilbern Genie of Mark Jones – car 101 – had a Cosworth 2.3 Litre engine under the bonnet that was fitted in the iconic Mercedes 190E produced in 1990. He achieved Class wins on both day's and was awarded the Ken Young Cup.
Mat Olejniczak-Parker won the Gilbern Wiscombe Cup.
Club Chairman Brian Gent was competing in his GT1800.
A selection of my photo's from this event are available to view on the Wiscombe Park Facebook page:
