Tried in vain at different ways to use the new cheap welder but at the end of the day at minimum of 50amps it will not weld the old 1mm thick steel. A friend has offered to buy the said welder so I am not loosing much money on it.

I have now found a replacement for my original welder that has the same spec, its range goes down to 35amps, that what I am used to. Its a very good price so I have ordered it, the one thing I can't stand at the moment is the restoration stalling so I need to get things moving again!

Well the new welder arrived on Friday so we set it up and gave it a go this morning.

Its worlds apart from the cheap one I bought previously, the weld on the lowest setting rarely burnt through and the weld quality was good. I'm not a novice at this but for someone starting out I would recommend this type of welder.
