I once called into this gent's place, he's had old cars there for years (at least 20yrs that I know of), he used to have a Standard 10 which is why I called in as at the time I had my beige example.

Twin wheel axle.

I used to drive a (now rare) petrol 190 Transit with the twin wheels. They gave much better grip than the later LWB transits. The Diesel chassis was available for Luton vans for years afterwards.

(For years I used Roy Wood Transits, Wokingham, who started in 1970 and amazingly is still going!)

Out for a boxing day wander with the dog and down through the village trundled a very nice Traction Engine.

I did recognise it as belonging to a chap in the next village, its a ploughing engine rather than a showmans engine and its in a lovely working condition.

Travelled to the midlands yesterday, saw lots on a very wet M5 but of note was a lovely wartime Dodge 6x4 being transported. It was restored but getting very wet on the back of the transporter!

Spied a smart red TR6 spinning its wheels leaving a petrol station, while today an immaculate Consul Capri was seen, being driven somewhat more sedately.

Not that I am likely to be a member of the VSCC but I understand that the rare MG TB is eligible for their events but the TC is not!

The cars are basically the same.

As they say across the pond........ "go figure" Laughing

In vintage terms you have to draw the line somewhere. '30s cars aren't really vintage, only post vintage. So even the cars of the '30s are only just tolerated.

My Austin Swallow was manufactured in September 1930 ... so "vintage". Another Swallow built exactly the same a few months later is designated "post vintage".

This is what happens when you use an arbitrary cut off date. I am, however, happy with the status quo even if it is somewhat irrational.

The difficulty is explaining to the uninitiated why a car labelled "vintage" is not necessarily any better than one that is not.

I've heard/read that 'big' changes are coming in at the VSCC, which includes the inclusion of a list of cars as late as 1955.

There's the VSCC's "Post Vintage Thoroughbred" list which lists cars post-1930 that they're willing to allow take part in vintage club events already, so maybe they're looking to expand it. It was enlarged a little a few years back when the early 30s sidevalve Minors were allowed to play. Post-war HRGs are also on the list already I think, I can't see them allowing a great number of post-war cars all of a sudden though, even stretching to all 1930s cars seems a little unlikely.

They still won't want my TC; not because it has a supercharger ...but because it has the "wrong" supercharger.

Yes, I was made aware of the change from 'grey porridge' to Post Vintage Thoroughbred status when it passed back in 2017, though I have no doubts there is still a hardcore of the membership that still calls the SV Minor 'grey porridge'. It's a far better car than many Vintage cars that 'make the grade'
