They seem to be the tyres of choice these days. It may just be the photo but I thought the wheels look a bit smaller than original. Then again, it could be an optical illusion or perhaps just the skimpy sporty wings.
Regardless of that, I first took to the Vauxhall 30/98 when I saw the late Fife Robinson extolling it's virtues on TV many years ago.
I thought he was damn good too.! |

I'm a big fan of the 30-98 and that one, a Type E, looks very nice. Strangely, though, the DVLA has its engine size as a 2-litre. The E engine was a 4.5-litre, with the later OE coming in at 4.2. Would love to have one in my garage, but it'll have to be much bigger than the one I currently have, which struggles to house my 1932 Morris Minor _________________ 1989 2CV

Yes, the tyres on the Vauxhall were Blockley, I was looking around it for a bit, not least because it was the only Vauxhall there.
I think the rear lights on the MGAs were just because the club had parked the same variants together - there were other types out of shot. I don't know anything about them, but my mate (who has an MGA himself) was pointing out the different rear lights on the different variants. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

I wonder if it's a humble 14/40 rather than a 30/98?

Do the two models share the same number of bonnet louvres? The bonnet of the car in question looks like a 30/98 ...but that doesn't really mean anything, does it? |

That said the DVLA has the capacity as 2048 cc that is the same as the 1931 Vauxhall Cadet (a 6 cylinder OHV engine) whereas the 14/40 was a side valve of 2297 cc.
I think the bonnet lengths are the same. It does have rather tiny brakes but the early 30/98 had no front brakes at all.
I suspect that it started life as a 14/40 but received a Cadet engine at some stage.

I went yesterday, really great attendance and loads to see. For no particular reason other than I'd like them in my garage I snapped;

Last time I saw that car it has the proper E type Vauxhall engine, fixed head job
Being an E type it would not have had front wheel brakes. So the one fitted with them makes the front look a bit gangly, the cycle wings dont help. |

Well that certainly looks like an E type engine. I wonder how they got away with the registered capacity of 2048cc??

I picked up a flyer in the pub last night for a motorcycle event being held at the Alsager Golf and Country Club on August 14th by the VJMC, which I think is vintage Japanese bikes. The event used to be held at the Bhurtpore pub. Bikes and cars welcome, £2 to display, all proceeds to the air ambulance. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |
