I went on the bike (black CCM Bobber, if anyone saw it) to Capesthorne and came to one overwhelming conclusion. I am getting old!.
Just as 40-odd years ago when I used to go to old car events with my dad and he moaned that Rover P4s, Morris Minors and the like weren't in any way old or classic and were thus of no interest, I found massed ranks of 1980's and 90's cars at Capesthorne of no merit or interest.
I must stress though, this is all down to me getting old, not the cars or their loving owners or clearly derive as much enjoyment out of them as ever. _________________ "Once bread becomes toast, it can never go back! |

That's certainly a problem for those of us who have lived for more than a few decades. "Did I just drive into the normal car park instead of the event show ground?"

Too right, Peter!
When I first saw a display of old cars at Fleet Carnival (many moons ago) there was a fantastic selection of veteran and vintage vehicles. The standard of restoration back then was more a case of hope over experience... but no one minded.
Over time the very old cars seem to have disappeared and replaced with Ford Escorts and Minis.
I have been proved completely wrong in my predictions because I couldn't believe that any of the modern mass produced cars would have survived the dreaded tin worm. If my Dad's Vauxhall Victor FA was anything to go by the Classic car "craze" would not last... |

I was at the meeting that Rick mentioned earlier near Malpas, and there was a reasonable selection including quite a lot of more modern vehicles. But then, it was called the "Anything Goes Classic Car Meet". _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

I went to a small classic car gathering alongside the miniature railway at a local pub today. Decent enough turnout, perhaps 10-12 cars and a few motorbikes, probably would have been more had it not rained all day. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

I read about that one. There was a lot on today (also Crewe Heritage and Woodford), we went over to the breakfast meet nr Combermere this am, there was rain around but not too bad, it only started coming down properly around midday.

There's a "Motor Festival" on in Betley on Sunday 4th September, at Betley Court Farm Holiday Cottages. Entry for exhibitors is £5 per vehicle (2 adults, 3 children), between 11am and 2.30pm. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

There's a "Classic Car Show with BBQ and Music" at the Willaston (near Nantwich) Masonic Hall on August 20th from 6pm. Tickets are £20 each, proceeds to the Masonic Charitable Foundation, book in advance, I have phone numbers if anyone wants them.
I won't be going because it's Tatton Park weekend, and £20. It's not clear whether that includes food or anything. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

I used to live opposite that place, there is not a huge amount of space, as much of the car park space was sold for housing, so it won't be big and there is very limited road parking for anyone driving there |

Decent turn-out of classic cars at Astle Park yesterday, though I suspect some (and I know one) were put off by the very hot weather. A decent show as usual, but it was nice to get back into the air conditioned modern car to go home.
Tatton next weekend. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

I keep meaning to go to that one, but usually remember when it's a bit too late on Tuesday to get the car out.
Tatton Park this weekend. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |
